Six Sigma Program Defined

By Craig Calvin

Back in the eighties, Motorola first developed and trademarked Six Sigma. They used it to discover the roots of the problems in management and production, with the determination to keep them from occurring again. From then until 2006, when Motorola reported, they have saved $17 billion from making use of Six Sigma.

The phrase "Six Sigma" is used to describe the field of statistics referred to as "process capability studies." PCS is establishing a manufacturing process will create high amounts of output within the tolerance of the specifications. Processes that integrate "six sigma" for a continued frame of time will create lowered defect levels in the long term.

A hallmark coinage that describes Six Sigma is "whatever leads to customer dissatisfaction" is gone or at least lessened. The Six Sigma Program is: Six Sigma Training, Six Sigma Certification, Six Sigma Black Belt Training and Certification, Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification, Six Sigma Online Training.

In the host organization, the quality management methods in Six Sigma start with the Black Belts. They then mentor the Green Belts, who respectively mentor the rest of the employees down the ladder. The emphasis is focused on strong management that is supportive.

As with the ones before them, Six Sigma wants to gain stable business processes that will bring success. A company needs to identify what areas can be measured, analyzed, improved and controlled in order to have a faultless record in production and business management. - 15433
