Easy Internet Marketing Tips

By Charlotte Bothey

Very few small business owners understand the importance of their website in Internet Marketing. A website is a sales and lead generation tool that most businesses fail to recognize as such. Entreprenuers are not alone. Most of their larger competitors haven't figured it out yet either.

Small business owners are wary of taking on their larger competitors because they believe correctly that they could be out spent in advertising dollars. With more and more of their customers going online, they can "out spend" their competitors by using time instead of money. Larger companies can't move as quickly as a small business because they generally have a chain of command that screens out much of the needed information unintentionally. Any entrepreneur today would be wise to spend the time necessary to learn the basics of Internet Marketing to reap big benefits in the future.

Marketing a business offline is something entrepreneurs know how to do. It's all about networking and convincing referrers to recommend them over their competitors. They don't realize that the same things are also true online. To them, Internet Marketing is an unfathomable medium that they don't understand. For those that fall into this category, email marketing may be a better way to "dip their toes into the water." Email is something they understand and are familiar with. Using it to marketing their business is something most have at least thought about. All they need is a little nudge.

Small business owners should realize, however, that email is just the beginning. There is much more to marketing goods and services online. Some of those methods would be:

* Complimentary services may provide the opportunity to place banner ads

* Develop a search engine marketing strategy that includes valid keywords that can be optimized for better visibility.

* Many potential clients use online forums to generate referrals and learn more about a product or service. It's important to have a presence.

* Use email to stay in touch and build a relationship with other business people and prospects

* Start their own topic based forum group on a site such as Ning.

* Write articles on their industry, business, or area and post them online

The list is not designed to overwhelm those new to internet marketing. It's purpose is show that there is more than one way to promote a business. The best way is still to take one tactic before trying something new.
