Choosing Your PPC Keywords

By Brian Basch

Good keywords can be compared to a good tagline. They are both equally important for the success of your advertising campaign. Your keywords are in effect the base of your PPC advertising campaign. If you choose weak keywords they will cause your campaign to fail, however strong ones can make your campaign soar.

Do your keyword researches to ensure you have the best keywords for your campaign. You will need to explore all niches in your market and examine every keyword in detail. In this way you can select the most effective ones.

To help you understand the keyword concept here is an example. Our base keyword will be "Real Estate."

Because of high commissions "Real Estate" is a very saturated word on the Internet.

Your initial step will be to compile a list. Think of the many keywords your potential customers might use, when they think about the base keyword. Take our example "Real Estate," searchers can use alternatives such as; investment property, real property etc. These keywords are just the tip of the iceberg as they are quite similar to the base word. This means that you should search a little more.

Next step would be to try to expand into the different types of real estate like commercial real estate, boarding houses etc. Then, mix these new set of words to the ones mentioned above to get brand new set of keyword groups.

You can start an exclusive campaign using just real estate company names. You can even add a .com to your country extension. Even if there is no domain under this name it will not matter because searchers often use these types of variants and you will pick up some cheap traffic this way.

Never use general keywords; use specific keywords to attract the target market. When you are thinking of a keyword then try looking at it from your client's point of view for best results.

Here are some tips to hit the jackpot:

- You can add a .com or .net etc to your keyword.

- Company names, domain names, and variations may turn out to be effective.

- Enhancing keywords with words like; best and cheap can be added to your keywords.

- Check your web logs to find out the keywords your visitors used to find you.

- You can glance over the copy on your competitor's site.

Put all the keywords you find in different lists. For example; typos should be in one list plurals a second list etc. You will be able to target your ads better with this system.

Go ahead and make long lists of keywords with the help of the information provided in this article. With the right keywords there will be nothing standing in the way of your success. So build and cement your PPC campaign with a strong foundation of effective keywords. All the Best! - 15433
